Seven Deadly Sins - Wrath and Patience Illustration

This project was originally created for a class assignment. For the assignment I was required to:
• Work through the design process to develop a poster design for an upcoming art exhibit entitled "Seven Deadly Sins: Road to Damnation" at the Neves Modern Art Museum, a fictitious museum of modern art in the east end of London, England.
• Choose one of the seven deadly sins (or one of the seven holy virtues) and visually depict that sin/virtue primarily through illustration and typography, though photography and natural media could also be utilized.
• Include the required body copy and Neves Modern logo.

When the project was initially assigned I chose to work with Wrath. However, during the thumbnail stage I began to play around with the idea of somehow also incorporating the opposing virtue, Patience, into the piece. I knew that if I were to include Patience in my illustration, I would need to "hide" it somehow, to make sure that Wrath still came across as the main focus. The original idea was that for the viewer, "finding" Patience would be a bit of a bonus, an easter egg if you will. You can see some of my thumbnails below, as well as the thumbnail for the idea I ended up going with.
While marinating on this idea a bit more, I thought of a playing card. A clean, flippable design split down the middle. Using that concept as a base model, I started working on my roughs. When I created a rough sketch that I was happy with I cleaned it up to use as a template in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator Draw.
Working primarily in Adobe Draw, I refined the outline of my illustration before adding color. I knew that I wanted to stick to a relatively monochromatic color palette for the piece as Wrath/Anger is traditionally depicted in red. However, when it came to selecting the colors for Patience, I didn't feel that a solely red color palette would make sense. I ended up going with orange and peach colors for Patience that flowed nicely with my chosen reds for Wrath.
Moving into Adobe Illustrator, I typeset the required body copy and cleaned up the design as well as all of the stray anchor points from Draw. I also changed the color of the goggles.

Finally, in Photoshop I created a textured background for the poster in order to add another layer of depth.

The finished composition can be seen below:
