Dim ol' Kevin - The Maquette

Here's yet another venture of art by me. Introducing Kevin, the dim ol' troll. Apart from animation, bringing characters to life has always driven me. As the story goes, at SCAD I have the opportunity to work with amazing mentors that guide with my interests. Sculpting always stood out for me and I got the opportunity to create and build my own maquette that sits pretty on my shelf.

It's starts with the ground work. The turn around,
And then came the daunting task of measurement and alignment. It took me about 2 weeks of preparation before I could lay my hands on the clay.
And so it began, the daunting task did pay off. The measurements were perfect and so I proceeded to armature wiring my model.
And then foiling. If you are new to sculpting, you must be wondering 'Why foil?'. The foil acts as the muscle and the fat of the anatomy. The mass and shape of the body is determined by tightly packing foil onto the wire.
Once I was content with the foiling, I started sticking Super Sculpey clay onto the foil.
Like a 3D model, Kevin was starting to take shape on my desk. It was slow and patient process. As exciting as it sounds to detail the heck outta the sculpt, it's always best take it slow. So I did, Built a stong base before I add the details.
I carefully added and removed the details.
And then, Kevin was decked and ready for his warm oven venture. Apologize for the kitchen counter stage.
And he was done. Baked and everything. So far my best maquette yet.
Stop scrolling. We're done here. Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did making it.
