This scroll was commissioned as an award through the Society for Creative Anachronism to recognize the recipient for her great efforts.
The knotwork, calligraphy, floral, zoomorphic designs and rubrication all were sourced from the 9th-century Irish monastic work titled The Book of Kells.
All calligraphy and coloring were done by hand with pigments (or equivalent colors, since some were quite toxic) that would have been available to monks in the 9th century Ireland.
