On My Way - A Hong Kong Inspired Collection

One year ago, I traveled to Hong Kong to study and it was one of the most inspiring experiences of my life. This trip is what inspired my concept. Hong Kong is busy and chaotic in a great way. I was very inspired by tall pastel painted buildings which inspired my main print and the colorful aspects of my collection. Since Hong Kong is so crowded, there are narrow roads, tall buildings, and winding walking paths. My concept became exciting, colorful, and geometric from these inspiring aspects of Hong Kong.

This project shows my aesthetic through the prints and layers. I enjoy color and unique prints that stand out, and also mixing prints. I enjoy painting on fabric to create the unique prints in this collection. It gives prints another dimension by using fabric paint on fabric and creating thick layers with colors showing through and not just a flat woven pattern. This thick paint look that my floral prints have also reflects back to Hong Kong in the way it is busy. Creating my own patterns and prints makes my designs even more unique. By hand painting prints, every garment even with the same print is a little different.

My target customer is an active traveler in her twenties. She is colorful just like her clothes. She buys her clothes to wear to work and for her personal travel. She enjoys wearing my clothes because they are unique and bright like her and also easy to wear for active walking around exploring a new place. However, her style is also feminine with the layers, bows, and flowing pieces.
