About Charles Bukowski
Charles Bukowski was a German-born American poet, novelist, and short story writer. He is mostly known for his books focusing on his alter ego, Henry Chinaski. The books chosen for this special edition package focus on his early life, middle and later years, which makes a good starter pack for anyone who wants to get into his writing.
Design
Because these books are all focusing on the life of one person, it can be considered a continuous story. Because of this, the imagery on each book is composed of one line drawings, which are then connected on the outer box, reflecting this idea.
Ham on Rye features a pair of binoculars because the book focuses on when Chinaski was young and was discovering the world around him. Post Office shows a mailbox since the book is around the time when he worked as a mailman, and Women show a pair of lips because the whole story revolves around Chinaski's later years and how he found temporary fulfillment in women.
