The Luminous Trilogy is a young adult Sci-Fi series with a tongue-in-cheek wryness about the weird world of cyborgs, spaceships, and galactic religious dystopia, never taking the setting quite seriously while still giving the characters heavy-hitting emotional arcs and a dramatic, gripping plot. It's also totally fake, invented for the purpose of designing these book jackets.

The unusual tonal combination is reflected on the covers: beginning with LUMINOUS, HEAVY, the first in the series, ethereal, sparkling, feminine colors and textures contrast with a very sleek, tactile-looking black robot arm. For the primary typography, sci-fi conventions of futuristic type or illustration-driven covers are upended in order to marry it more closely to the fantasy genre using a decorative, almost vintagey typeface. The upward slant suggests the dynamism and movement of the fast-paced action in the book itself.
