"Great Migration"

Media: graphite pencils

Size: 18" x 24"

"Great Migration" was completed in 2016, and takes on a straightforward approach to an issue that is plaguing the natural bee populations. This graphite drawing depicts the flight of a wild bee colony being migrated by a flight of butterflies to a sanctuary of survival, and shows a fantastical scene of nature fighting for survival in an ever-changing world of climate change and evolving habitats. The affect changing climates, disease, and mass farming is having on the bee populations is devastating their natural populations. We all depend on bee pollination every year for so much of the food that sustains us, and the truth is, once they are gone there is no bringing them back. By connecting and showing empathy towards bees now, we may be able to reverse the damage by farming responsibly, and replacing the harmful practices like the use of fossil fuels that induce climate change for more naturally sustainable practices. When one piece of the web of life is broken, more strands will fall in its wake.
