Sultana craft is a traditional craft of making products using wire wrapping technique from Rajasthan,India. It is a dying craft which was earlier used to create beautiful products using minimal materials. One can use this technique to make small furnitures and lighting products.

First, a wrought iron skeleton is made and using the wire wrapping technique, new materials apart from traditionally used wires like threads, cables is wrapped around the skeleton. I made two products using the same technique but different design and material. 

For my first product, I made a 1:1 sketch of my design, then welded the 6 mm rod to create a skeleton. I used organic shapes and created a contemporary design. Using the 0.5 mm G.I. wire, I coiled the skeleton and with the 1 mm G.I. wire, I wrapped the entire skeleton.

I made a home accessory(lamp). Light and shadow works beautifully on the wall as the wrapping is creating a breath taking pattern on the wall. This product has multiple uses. It can be used as a base for a lamp, a fruit/vegetable basket with a stand at the bottom.

My second product is inspired from geometric shapes. I made a 1:1 sketch of the basic structure. I have used anchor threads with a basic aim to experiment as they are soft and are available in vibrant colours. Threads are of a completely opposite texture compared to wire.
