This brooch design is based off of a native African folk tale out of South Africa.  The beautiful water snake would carry her shining white stone on her head to the river everyday, where she would wash and drink from the river.  When it was stolen, she grieved so bitterly that the river dried up and she could be heard crying in the moonlight.  The thief returns her stone to her, and in turn she brings back the river water, restoring life to the region.  This piece is meant to be a sculptural narrative, able to tell the story without words.
