Oxford University Press gave me the task of redesigning two children's classic's, one of these being Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen, a novel centred around love, scandal and gossip. The redesign was to be aimed at children between 7-11 and I wanted the design to be bright, vibrant and illustrative so as to appeal to this market. OUP provided a basic template which had to be incorporated into the design, however I felt it was important to ensure the book design looked as free and playful as possible whilst adhering to brand guidelines.
I wanted the cover to not reflect the famed romance between Mr Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet, but rather their initial distaste for one another and I wanted to reflect this in a comical manner so as to appeal to children.
