Surface Design: Peony

Using Photoshop to create a wallpaper pattern, I deconstructed a photograph of a peony blossom, layering and blending it to create depth and movement. My goal was to design a contemporary abstract pattern with depth and softness through the use of layering and translucency. I envisioned this paper bringing softness and a jolt of color to modern loft or industrial setting. I created multiple patterns with the pink hues at high and low key values, each creating a different atmosphere. The pattern can be scaled large or small, which makes the peony imagery either more dot-like or more like abstract waves. While designed as wallpaper, these patterns can be applied to various materials.
