“All Room” is a mock installation of a potential hospital room constructed of light boxes, bristle paper, film paper, and water. The intent of this room was to provide users (hospital patients) an eccentric, yet serene and pleasant environment. Whereas being engulfed in natural light is one of the greatest and most soothing experiences, natural light is a very fleeting element, especially during times of winter and autumn. In this room, users would be able to immerse themselves in a glorifying light during any time of day, and any type of weather. I experimented with the spatial dynamics of my room by constructing various geometric pieces as mock furniture. Additionally, I dabbed bits of water between the film paper and light-box to create fluid, free-flowing shapes that would complement the geometric nature of the room by adding organic elements, and create heightened focus on the lights. Because light serves as such a vital element to one’s growth, spirituality, and emotional state, I believe that creating an environment that centers around the empowerment of light is crucial to a patient’s well-being and recovery.
