Lullaby follows the story of Carl Streator, a crime reporter who comes in contact with a book of rhymes that contains an African chant that allows the reader to kill whomever he or she pleases.
The concept behind the book cover was to put the reader in the same position the protagonist is. Unbeknownst to the reader, no information is given to them or the danger within the book is unveiled until they pull on the tongue of the book's spirit. The book’s information is revealed when they have completely pulled the tongue out, and have awakened the spirit through their interaction with it.
