THE CONCEPT
For this project done for my Typography II class, my concept targets our generation and the next step in our lives in terms of growing up, moving out (for real this time), and starting our new lives as adults. The title of the series is, “The Art of Getting Your Life (and Home) Together.” It would be a series of coffee table books dedicated to styling and decorating your home to fit the aesthetic of what I think would appeal to the majority of our class/school. The three different books would consist of the Living Room, the Kitchen, and the Bedroom. I think it is important for everyone to feel comfortable in their space and to really enjoy their home because it directly affects the way you live and how you feel. This is something that I believe is an interest and concern in our lives as millennials in this stage of our life. The books will have a somewhat of a playful feel to them because I want them to appeal to our generation and I think that the smartest way of doing that is to be somewhat clever and witty. I want to address the eclectic audience and style of our age group. We all sort of enjoy thrifted or vintage pieces and things that match, but don’t really match (a.k.a. eclecticism at its finest). I want it to be aesthetically pleasing to the eye that will not only appeal to help us to decorate our homes, but to also look pretty that we would want to use it to decorate as well. I think overall, I want to incorporate some hand drawn elements to the cover over high-resolution images that relate directly to each room. I also want to play with hand lettering in terms of each room and cater the lettering to fit each room and play with the background image.
