This concept was created for my senior thesis. It is a personal vinyl record cutter that literally cuts your mp3 files into a blank vinyl records.
It's a device that works with almost any kind of turntable. It uses a heated diamond stylus that makes it possible to cut straight into a blank vinyl, instead of cutting into a laquer plate, as it is used to make a master for pressing vinyl records in mass production. This system allows to make a single copy.
The interface is inspired by a common CD burning program, which most users are familiar with. The user selects the tracks and drags them onto the virtual vinyl record. The tonearm is then placed onto the center of the turntable and cuts the groove automatically into the blank vinyl.
The AUDIOCUT package also includes the AUDIOCUT PRO software, which is meant as an enhancement for professionals and DJ's. It can be downloaded and put onto an ipad or PC/Mac system. By connecting the ipad or PC to the cutting hardware it will take then take full control of the record-making process. It includes all the features of the basic interface screen (located on the hardware device) and additionally allows the user to customise the groove and editing tracks. He can decide to have an inside-out running groove, or having multiple separate grooves for each track or sound clip, or parallel running grooves. This way the user can customise the record to his personal needs.
