Confronting an established medium for the first time is daunting. It was daunting when I decided I would explore observational representation in drawing and painting because such a practice has a lengthy history full of experts and giants. Though photography hasn't been around nearly as long, the thought of engaging with it brings far more anxiety for me. I think the primary source of this is the understanding I have of photography as a universal language that is so easy to enter and so difficult to master. That anyone can take a photograph is polarizing in a way. It demands that I compete.

Despite all of this, I decided to take photgraphs anyway.

I don't yet know what I'm doing, but I don't think that's a good enough reason to prevent me from exploring this new medium. With time and experience, I will learn and improve. The following is what I've created so far.
