King Middle School Process

This assignment was to help King Middle School of Portland Maine in the creation of a logo. The school wanted to have a logo that stood out from other schools and did not imply to the idea of royalty or monarchy since King is named after an individual with the name and not after the idea of monarchs. The school is unique in the fact that they practice expedition learning when classes are given real world problems that they will work with for a half of the school year. Each class focuses on some part of the topic and real world practice rather than studying from textbooks. This logo attempts to take three separate pieces, in relationship to the schools grades, and come together in order to create a unique icon. The parts could also be seen as individual subjects, students, or even teachers that work together to look at things differently and find solutions to problems. It portrays teamwork along with creative and expeditionary learning.
Two slightly different final variations of the first logo concept. It uses a form of the logo shown previously and the school's color green. The text is also solid and sturdy and stands as a foundation to hold the dynamic icon together.
These are variations of a second logo concept which is a similar thought process of looking at problems in a different way and different classes, students, or subjects working together. On the other hand, unlike the first concept, there is a more noticeable feeling of energy and excitement within the form that is similar to the energy the students have about learning. Blue is also integrated into the color scheme and implies the world or diversity which is an important aspect of the incredibly diverse middle school that currently has 33 total spoken languages across the student body.
The final variation of the second logo concept, which was chosen by King Middle School as one of the five finalists to go into a second round of improving and used on applications.
