Orbit Series 4 2016

Each Orbit collection originates from a love of space exploration culture and a childhood dream of becoming an astronaut. Orbit taps in to the collective fascination of exploring the unknown. In particular- all of the fantastical ways we dream up to get there and the tools we use to understand the mystery that surrounds us. They are time machines made of heat, debris and memory, they are the toys of our theories circling the same dogmas over and over again until understanding expands and we perceive a whole new universe. The form the mobiles take reference early astronomical and navigational equipment circa the 13th-19th centuries. The materials used are specifically found object, as being influenced by material circumstances is so often key to our perception of our realities. I select and dismantle many curiosities to use from timepieces to toasters to avionics and all are an exercise in discovery and a new opportunity to learn how things tick. Currently I am an Alberta-based artist (BFA ACAD 2000) and pilot, a license I earned in 2014, because I've never stopped yearning to fly. I spend much of my time searching the ground with my head in the stars, finding new ways to bring all my passions together.
Orbit Series 4 was commissioned for "Transitions", by the Quickfire Cookery, an exclusive fine dinning event held in December 2016 at the Peter Robertson Gallery in Edmonton, Ab.
