Food, Friends and Family Fun.
Everyone loves to have a good time. And whether it’s a night out on the town and concert with friends, or a family picnic with a race down the water slide, our community has plenty to offer. For me, the following projects ranked two thumbs up on the fun and adventure scale.
AMERICAN RED CROSS - Martinis On Main Event. The American Red Cross asked me to help develop a brand for their new capital campaign event. Called Martinis On Main, the theme is based on the look and feel of a turn of the century speakeasy and combines it with a night of art, music and signature cocktails. VIP guests enjoy an evening of glitz, glamour and high-end mixology. The night culminates in an open auction, with the proceeds going towards helping Red Cross families in the coming year.
EAST ALABAMA ARTS ASSOCIATION - 2013-14 Season Brochure. EAA’s 2013-14 season gives a nod to the big stage as the latest lineup pays homage to Broadway! From big city dance productions and Broadway classics to intimate evenings with your favorite stage stars, this season has it all.
EAST ALABAMA ARTS ASSOCIATION - 2013-14 Season Brochure & Membership Card.
DOTHAN AREA CONVENTION & VISITOR’S BUREAU - Poplar Head Jam. Following in the footsteps of other music festivals like City Stages, Jubliee and Bay-Fest, stake-holders in Dothan asked event guru George McMillan to help create a event of our own. I won the opportunity to develop the logo and marketing materials for the new project, which included everything from the original logo and event graphics to a full range of media applications.
ENTERPRISE STATE JUNIOR COLLEGE - Grid Iron Fan Fair!. ESJC teamed up with local sponsors to raise money for their organization in a way that had everyone in the community cheering them on. For one of the more entertaining elements, ESJC was asked to host a VIP sponsor breakfast, where the marketing pieces used terms and imagery that played equally well for sports and breakfast fair.
ENTERPRISE STATE JUNIOR COLLEGE - Grid Iron Fan Fair!. Using the region’s love for college football, I developed event materials based on popular college teams, allowing people to donate their time and money to advance not only their favorite football team, but ESJC as well.
DOWNTOWN GROUP - Festivale! Music Festival. After several year’s presenting smaller, more intimate events, the Downtown Group requested and won the opportunity to host a large-scale music event, developed exclusively from local support, resources and oversight. Since I had worked with the DTG on past projects, I was asked to develop the event logo and advertising materials to promote the festival. With a wide range on national, regional and local talent, the project’s identity was based on fun, family-friendly entertainment.
MOVIE GALLERY - International Student Video Competition. Based on popular festivals like Cannes and Sundance, Movie Gallery decided to help student producers, videographers and filmmakers bring attention to their work. Held in Auburn, Alabama, the festival’s 1st annual exhibit and awards show was a chance for me to explore beyond Movie Gallery’s usual retail mind-set and work on a project more like the movie studios and films they help make famous.
CHARTERBANK - 60th Anniversary Celebration Graphics. CharterBank has been practicing their unique style of neighborhood banking since the 50’s. And when you stop and think about it, that’s no small feat when you consider how many financial and banking trends have come and gone since then. I guess you could say 60 years of taking care of their friends and neighbors is, without a doubt, reason to celebrate.
DOWNTOWN GROUP - Downtown Countdown. With the Millennium on the way, the Downtown Group wanted to make sure the community was able to celebrate in style. Billed as an elegant evening for friends and family, the event offered everything from an upscale black tie ball to a midnight concert, fireworks show and ball drop.
DOWNTOWN GROUP - Downtown Countdown. One of the key components to the event process is reaching out to the community for potential sponsors. My take on the event was to keep the event, and the asking process, light-hearted. Using a play on words, we invited our sponsorship candidates to a Millennium celebration breakfast they’ll remember for another hundred years.
GEORGE WASHINGTON CARVER MUSEUM - Logo and Brochure. My concept behind the GW Carver project came to me as I was writing the invocation for their brochure. It reads:

Uncommon men, the likes of which include artists, explorers and visionaries, need three things in life...

A spark to ignite them,
a torch to guide them,
and a beacon to lead them home.

The truly extraordinary of them shall eventually become all three of these things to others.

I believe this idea represents Dr. Carver well, and I used it as the concept for the museum logo. Symbolizing raised hands holding a spark, the logo illustrates the idea of the spark, the torch and the beacon -- all in one powerful symbol.
DOWNTOWN GROUP - Festival of Murals Campaign. Dothan Alabama is known for tall tales, but some are definitely taller than others. Recognized as an official Mural City, Dothan tells the story of its past and the people who shaped the region through murals throughout the downtown area. I was asked to help create promotional materials for the project, with a focus on education, tour group business and local tourism.
SOUTHEAST ALABAMA COMMUNITY THEATRE - Logo and Promotional Materials. Southeast Alabama Community Theatre, known locally as “SEACT”, has a long history of bringing great theatre to the region. I’d worked alongside SEACT board members for years so it was an honor when they asked if I would update their identity and promotional materials. And even though performances range from time-tested classics and Broadway favorites to avant-garde comedy and modern-day musicals, the logo was designed to represent the soul and essence of the Shakespearean stage.
DOTHAN AREA BOTANICAL GARDENS - Music & Art In The Garden. In the South, we love our gardens almost as much as we love football and sweet tea. To help DABG promote its annual Garden Tour, we developed a logo and series of event materials with the same lively and vibrant color as the gardens they were designed to promote.
DOWNTOWN GROUP - Foster Street Music Festival. For years, the Downtown Group has been famous for bringing food, music and family entertainment to the downtown area. On the eve of the Millennium they were back at it, blocking one of the main thoroughfares in historic downtown Dothan and turning it into a weekend of celebration. For an entire weekend, the upbeat event and top name talent invited the whole city to come downtown for a dance.
Country Crossing - Educational Advertising. Begun as an economic development project and entertainment venue for Houston County, the Country Crossing project promised to help grow tourism throughout the state. And even though the project was never completed, the advertising and promotional materials we developed were instrumental in educating the public about benefits of the project not at all related to bingo.
WATER WORLD - Great White Attraction. Water World is known throughout our region for being the very best way to spend a hot Summer day. When they added their latest attraction ride, the Great White, they wanted to hook just the right audience. One fun logo and a great promotion later, Water World was helping kids and parents alike take a bite out of an otherwise boring Summer...
