Just What the Doctors Ordered...
Thirty years ago, you’d be hard pressed to find a healthcare professional who would acknowledge terms like marketing, public relations and advertising. These days, self promotion is just another part of their busy day. Below are some of my favorite projects for medical clients -- just the right dose of inspiration and insight.
ENTERPRISE HEALTH & REHAB - Corporate Identity.  Complete campaign, to include new logo, advertising and collateral materials.
SOUTHEAST ALABAMA MEDICAL CENTER - Annual Report. This annual report focused on introducing stake-holders to the people behind the scenes at the hospital -- from the unseen laundry workers to the hidden IT professionals. SAMC feels these individuals make up the difference in providing the community with exceptional healthcare.
McDANIEL & ASSOCIATES - Practice Campaign. McDaniel & Associates, a regional accounting firm, expanded its services to include medical practice management. The campaign was designed to reach out to smaller medical groups and practice partners, offering them an attractive alternative to an old way of doing business.
Miller Orthodontics - Corporate Identity. Putting smiles on faces isn’t an easy thing to do – that is, unless you’re Dr. Katie Miller. Dr. Miller believes in having fun, bold color and embracing the unexpected, all of which served as inspiration for her new logo series. With that kind of adventurous spirit her practice is sure to give kids, their families and the whole community something to smile about.
ENT CARE ASSOCIATES - Corporate Identity. After two decades and a half dozen mergers, the leading ear, nose and throat care provider was suffering from an identity crisis. By shortening the name and adopting a color coded system to identify and promote its specialists, ENT Care was able to offer the public exactly the kind of care it needed.
SOUTHEAST ALABAMA PAIN MANAGEMENT CENTER - Doctor Referral Program. In order to generate referrals, SAPMC asked for a non-threatening way to reach out to referring physicians. National statistics on pain management became the basis for an ongoing dialog between SAPMC and the local medical community.
SOUTHEAST CANCER CENTER - Print Advertising. Southeast Cancer Center has helped thousands of individuals weather the storm of cancer, and has an incredible collection of stories, memories and experiences to show for it. My job was to simply help tell them to the world...
CURE QUARTERLY MAGAZINE - Design, Concept and Production. Working for Media General, I was asked to create and produce a local/regional magazine focused on healthcare and healthy living. Cure Quarterly used local and national content to help local readers stay healthy.
THE AIM PROJECT - National Marketing Campaign. As a part of a federal grant project, I developed marketing materials and retail advertising products used by local, regional and national healthcare providers. Retail products focused on abstinence education for teens and parents, and messages throughout the campaign promoted healthy lifestyle choices for young people.
THE AIM PROJECT - National Marketing Campaign. In addition to using campaign materials for their own programs, The Aim Project also offered retail products to similar programs across the country. The Idea Exchange was a catalog system, designed to offer healthcare organizations both ready-to-use and fully customizable marketing solutions.
ALLSOUTH URGENT CARE - Corporate Identity. Allsouth Urgent Care was developed to offer 24-hour healthcare to those “in the middle” -- caught between a home remedy and a trip to the emergency room. Their goal is to install locations in secondary markets, where they’re needed most. The identity and graphics for the campaign were designed to be friendly, visible and easy to remember.
ALABAMA COMMUNITY HEALTHY MARRIAGE INITIATIVE - Corporate Identity & Marketing Campaign. Working with Auburn University and representatives from the Alabama State Government, I developed the corporate identity and concept materials for the ACHMI Project. Their goal was to educate the state about the statistics related to Alabama’s growing divorce rate, and to offer resources for families in need. Materials covered everything from logos and collateral to advertising and tools for interactive media.

UNICARE INC. - Pharmacist Recruiting Campaign. UniCare is a pharma company who pre-packs medicines and other pharmaceuticals for use in hospitals, nursing homes and other healthcare facilities. A s a majority of heir employees are pharmacists, at some point they realized the “big three” (Rite Aid, Walgreen’s and CVS) were affecting their ability to recruit and hire new candidates.

The “Time” campaign was the result of a casual conversation with their HR director. As she tells me the story of the young pharmacist who gets to take off a great deal during football season so he can go to games, and how another employee had just delivered a new baby so they adjust her schedule so she can be home at night with her, something amazing occurs to me. UniCare not only cares about their employees, they also value their interests and personal lives outside the workplace. So much so, they’re willing to adjust schedules and rearrange work times so their pharmacists can lead their lives. Money is great, but time can’t be regained once it’s gone. Once UniCare began promoting the importance of time over the size of a salary, problems with finding new candidates were a thing of the past.
WILLIAM SHELOR, MD - Practice Brochure. When Dr. Shelor decided to leave a group practice and open up his own, he decided to focus on senior care. His brochure was designed around the idea that education, prevention and awareness will allow us to enjoy what will be the best times of our lives.
