Detroit City Branding Campaign
The purpose of my DES480 course was to create a whole campaign and branding package for a "comeback city." We chose the city based on a specific demographic we were given, which were Adults ages 23 to 26 with a Masters Degree or higher education in my case. I chose Detroit, because not only is it one of the greatest comeback cities, it has also been attracting a lot of younger people these days, especially the downtown area.
My idea was to create deliverables that appealed to this demographic using certain tones that the downtown night life of Detroit offered. So, I included somewhat dark moody colors that represented the night sky and city lights, as well as "edgy" shapes and patterns that represented the artistic and innovative demographic.
Poster
This poster was created to be posted within or around the city. The colors, logo, and design patterns were used throughout the rest of the design campaign deliverables.
Billboard
This is an example of what a billboard for Detroit could look like, given the continuing design theme. The tagline was enlarged so as to catch the attention of a driver, but simultaneously keeping it short and sweet so as not to distract the driver.
App Design
This is a potential app design for smart phones for the visitors of Detroit. On the app, visitors can find places to go within the city based on their interests or desires. They would first select the interest which would then take them to a list of places to go, and tapping on a destination will then show them the information all about the location.
lens cloth
This would be a lens cloth that could be printed as well. They would be perfect ephemera to hand out on the street, kind of like a flyer, or to be sold in gift shops.
Album Cover
One of my rather different ideas was to create an album cover for a potential vinyl record called "Detroit's Greatest Artists." It would consist of music artists who have made it in Detroit or are up and coming. Many people from the specific demographic are into record players these days, so this would be a great addition to any collection, especially Detroit music enthusiasts.
Laptop decal
The specific demographic is very tech-savvy, so almost all of them have a laptop of some sort. This sticker decal of the "D" would incite some questions about it like where the person got it, to which they would answer with a story about their trip to Detroit.
