Fashion is the art we wear everyday. It’s an extension of our personality and inner being. What you wear attracts different emotions and reactions and sets the mood of how people perceive you.
For this assignment, I wanted to create a garment that was bold, structured and was able to transform the human body into a piece of the world around us.
My inspiration was driven from architecture, and the power it brings people. Like fashion, we encounter buildings, monuments and man made structures each day. When you enter different buildings, the strong geometric shapes, sharp lines and details can empower you, catch your eye, and leave you in a sense of “awe” and feeling inspired.
The skirt I created was made up of folded book pages that create a large three-tier structure as a whole much like a skyscraper. Where, the top of the dress was made from a tiny laser that created small shapes, reflective of the details you see in buildings, cathedral or ceiling of a museum.
In the photo shoot, bold geometric eye makeup was used, and focused on colors of black and white which are opposite on the spectrum and the highest contrast to emphasize the geometric structure of the dress.
