James and the Giant Peach Book Redesign

James and the Giant Peach Book Redesign
Problems of Old Book
This original book is somewhat confusing in terms of how the cover and the back cover are laid out. The concept of the book is for it to have a comic book style, but it is not integrated into the design well. The front cover is too busy and distracting, and the illustrations on the cover don’t match with the ones on the inside of the book. This detracts to the consistency of the book and makes it even more disorganized. The back is very complicated as well, since there is a short description of the story but it is told in a comic strip style. Although this is a fun alternative, it looks more like a pattern as opposed as something that contains information.Overall, the design of the book is very busy and could be simplified without sacrificing the fun illustrations and colors that call children’s attention.

Redesign
The original book has the title incorporated into the illustration, which is a nice touch but overpowered by the comic book squares on top. The new design will still have the title incorporated to the illustration, but this time it will be the focal point, with all the other elements being secondary. The visuals will also be given a modern illustration style which will not only be friendlier but consistent throughout the book. This quality will be backed up with the typography, which will be sans serif throughout the whole book, including the body. Overall, The original feel will still be kept, but will be given an new contemporary twist to it.
