For our last project, we were asked to collaborate with the drama department to create a logo that is fitting for their project, as we develop and help them with their ideas. A brief outlook on what went into my design is my client was really big into children. She wanted to create a theatre that inspire H.O.P.E (Helping Our People Excel), as a way of inspiring young children to get involved with their creative side and letting it flow out in expression of theater.

Our concept was to create a logo that was not too busy that would get the point across visually for students, and inspire them. Brainstorming we sought out colors she did not want, and the icons and symbols that brought upon hope. Provided with a dove, she expressed how it inspired hope for her and its symbolism as one. My initial idea was to illustrate something more of a horseshoe or clover as a symbol of luck, but over time it evolved into this. I took the classic necessity of a dove and morphed it into something extravagant to look at more than a simple dove.

My process started off with the mind map and then I went into making a matrix. Afterwards I went through many sketches (AND I MEAN MANY) and when I got done I could not for the life of me chose which one I wanted to go with. So I Illustrated at least 7 of them and the first one I sent to her she was amazing at how close to her imagination it was. She told me I'm really good at what I do and that made everything worth while. Adding the color scheme to please here was probably the most challenging because what I wanted was blue but I had to remember (THIS IS NOT MY DESIGN) so I took her color scheme and played with which colors would most dramatically effect each other. I was gonna make H.O.P.E. into the color of the masks which would have flowed better, but I wanted it to pop as if it could stand on its own. And It did just that.

I learned many things in the process of making this logo. i learned to manage my time wisely. I had to be on top of work at all times because of break I only had minimum time to work on this. I also learned how to interact and deal with collaborating with the client. I learned that there are things we don't think of when we first start off, and that it is ok to compromise as long as it doesn't deter to design of the piece to be destroyed because of it. I already knew a lot of skills because I learned many from this class I have become soooooo much better than what I ever thought I could be. I did learn things like clipping and spacing doing my logos and how things should fit around a logo. In all I learned a lot and I knew a lot however, there is always room for improvement.
