TENT Academy Awards - Exhibition design
About this project
By hosting the Tent Academy Awards, TENT Rotterdam provides a platform for contemporary audiovisual art. For the 2014 awards, Inherent was asked to create the design for the visual identity, awards show, and exhibition. The design of the exhibition focused on the relation between the audience and art, and the bridge that TENT (as an art institute) forms between the two.
The design emphasises the triangle-relationship between the visitor, the art and the art-institute. The high chairs refer to the position of 'referee' that TENT takes on during TAA. However, it is the visitor that seat themselves in this position during the exhibition. Additionally, the visitor is not disturbed while viewing the work.

Building the exhibition
TAA in Helsinki
When we originally presented our concept for the exhibition, we had classic referee chairs in mind (this was before we had the chance to design the chairs ourselves). When the exhibition traveled to Finland the concept was kept in tact by using existing chairs – it even had an abacus.
