Molly Seidel: A Champion for All Seasons Graphics

The ideation process for Molly Seidel: A Champion for All Seasons was impressively short and sweet. I sat down with FIM's creative director; we talked about discipline, cadence, and progression; we each made a single sketch, and I was off.
Lower Third Process
Version 1 – created in Illustrator using Factoria Bold and Gotham Medium, according to Notre Dame Athletics brand standards.
Version 2 – moved text to top of linework; reduced line weight and opacity.
Version 3 – moved text back down (sits differently than Version 1); increased line weight and opacity.
Lower Third Animation
Version 1 – created in Illustrator; file brought into After Effects and animated. Each curve and straight line has its own layer, with fifteen layers in all.
Version 2 – increased animation timing and speed of text; animated lines to create end points.
Version 3 – Increased timing and speed of lines. Discipline, cadence, progression.
Title Card Animation
Version 1 – I reversed the style of the lower thirds, using gold text and white linework.
Version 2 – changed the subtitle from gold to white and reduced it in size by about 80%. The "l" in "Seidel" created an awkward blank space, making it difficult to set up both lines at the same visual length.
Version 3 – reduced size and changed location of track on bottom left. Animated in After Effects.
End Credits
The original version of the end credits sequence, which was eventually modified to add interview commentary. While both versions are visually successful, the original version better highlights my motion design work (and the final version was created while I was on vacation with my family in Ireland).
Digital Skins
Much of the design for this piece was an interpretation of the "digital skins" used by Troika in their 2014 SportsCenter rebrand. When my boss suggested we work around the idea of lines on a track, I immediately thought of this video.
