First Vehicle Wrap for Sign Studios - WJ Deutsch & Sons Winery, October 2007
nicknamed "The Grapemobile"
We started with a brand new 2008 Land Rover LR2, straight from the dealership across the street.
The vehicle had to be washed, waxed and "surgically clean" so the vinyl printed graphics would apply smoothly.
Next, I had to photograph all the sides of the vehicle and take detailed measurements of every panel and detail, accurate to within 1/8 of an inch.
Measurements had to be taken of all the body panels and details, overlaid on the photos of it from every angle.
Then we sent the photos to Fellers, who generated a layered 1:20 Scale template, using the "Bad Wrap" plugin for Adobe Photoshop. The process took about a week. I then was able to overlay my graphics on the template, dragging and dropping art into the layers. The process was very memory-intensive and the final digital print files were about 50 gigabytes apiece (at 720 dpi). The 720 dpi output was necessary so it would be 72 dpi once they were scaled up 20 times. Then, we FTP-transferred the files to a digital wide format solvent jet printer, which printed the graphics on long sheets of pressure-sensitive vinyl.
The wrap was installed at a digital print facility equipped with a garage, applied by hand using rubber tools to smooth it along the body lines without air bubbles. It was then re-delivered to the store so the client could pick it up.
Second Vehicle Wrap for Sign Studios - ITWire.com, a mobile computer repair business similar to the "geek squad." January 2008
For this bus wrap for Valley Forge Military Academy from winter 2012, they wanted a different student on each window to show Valley Forge's new diversity of ethnic groups, skin colors and equal jobs for both men and women. They wanted to place an emphasis on equality, diversity and individuality, which are not concepts one typically associates with the military.
The back of the vehicle was also very difficult to design. The client wanted a photo of a girl riding a horse in the snow, and they wanted her face to be on perforated window vinyl over the back window of the bus.
