A few weeks ago, I attended a Trump campaign rally. Because of all the negative media coverage of Mr. Trump’s rallies, I was expecting to witness people punching protestors or engaging in other violent outbursts. But I didn’t see that. What I did see was Mr. Trump punching supporters — with words of passion. And I admit, it was exhilarating.

Before going to the rally I was skeptical. A lot has been written about Mr. Trump hating Mexicans and Muslims and women and other people who should maybe think about whether or not they want to live in America. But the rally wasn’t about hate; it was about love. It was about showing love to everyone—especially to white people, and I think that’s something that everyone can support, whether you’re white or black or something else.

The passion was palpable, from the podium down to the crowd and all the way to the press cages outside. Mr. Trump was loud with passion, and I felt it. And there was truth in that passion. After all, the only things more true than facts are feelings, because they are true to the person feeling them, so that person knows they can trust the source.

I wouldn’t say I have strong beliefs about things, but I do have strong suspicions; and it was nice to have those suspicions confirmed by Mr. Trump, who also doesn’t seem to have strong beliefs.

As a marketer, I understand that educating people about a product isn’t nearly as important as empowering them or scaring them or doing both at the same time. Anyone familiar with Mr. Trump knows that he’s a marketing and branding expert, so he understands the aforementioned concept all too well. Except he’s not selling a product; he’s selling America. And I’m buying!

I’m a registered Independent; I was keeping an open mind about which of the candidates might be best for America and for me. I’m not sure I’ve made up my mind, but after being at that rally, I’ve definitely made up my heart.
