Selected Ads for GamersNET (October 2010 - June 2012)

As a Multimedia Designer for GamersNET I am responsible for making the various Take Overs (also known as Themes) and the Mini Sites. The clients, in these cases the publishers of the games, supplied source materials which I then use to make the background for the website and the base for the flash header in Photoshop. Then I use Flash to make the flash header, using a combination of keyframe animation and ActionScript. Sometimes the header is quite simple and it contains only a logo and a trailer. On other occasions buttons and other interactive elements are also added, depending on the wishes of the publisher.

For the Mini sites the proces is very similar. The difference is that sometimes the Mini Sites are made to fit in with a Take Over, so that together the two work to showcase a publisher's game.

All the source materials were provided by the publishers. The copyright for these source materials remains with the rightfull owners. I do not own these source materials in any way.
Enslaved
Take Over

Date: 8th of October 2010
Game: Enslaved: Odyssey to the West
Publisher: Namco Bandai

This Take Over remains one of the Take Overs that I am the most proud about. The theme and art style of this game allowed for the use of lianes, which are covering parts of the main menu and part of the main content. The flickering neon lights also match the game's art style very well and when you hover your mouse over one the buttons, a liane wraps itself around it.

The lianes really add a nice ammount of depth to the header. They seem to be everywhere and when you enter the website for the first time, you can immediately see that there are several layers of lianes. The lianes in the black have been blurred slightly to add even more depth.
Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
Take Over

Game: Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
Publisher: Ubisoft

For this Take Over I wanted to have interface elements that match the ingame menu. This is visible in the interface element for the trailer, which features a DNA-strain that is also used in the game. The buttons and the banner with the quote have a texture applied to them that is also used in the ingame computer. The animations of the buttons have been matched to that style.
Far Cry 3
Take Over

Date: 3rd of June 2012
Game: Far Cry 3
Publisher: Ubisoft
Link: http://www.gamersnet.nl/?skin=farcry3e3

This Take Over was made for the game Far Cry 3, published by Ubisoft. One of my goals with this Take Over was to create more depth by having elements, like the man in the middle and the knife on the right, partially cover interface elements of the website. The banner on the right also partially covers the main content of the website.

To match the general feel of the game, I also changed the background of the main menu to a rough wood.
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit
Take Over

Date: 23rd of November 2010
Game: Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit
Publisher: Electronic Arts

This Take Over is an Extreme Take Over, which means that the background also has some animations. In this case the supplied source material consisted of two cars, one race car and a police car. For the police car in the background I animated the lightbar, making it flash like it would in real life. for the race car I added a slight animation near the exhaust pipes.

The neon text on the buttons flickers from time to time, adding to the atmosphere of the Take Over. Also, when you hover your mouse over one of the buttons, the speed on the speed dial will rise.
Brink
Mini Site

Date: 13th of May 2011
Game: Brink
Publisher: Bethesda Softworks
Link: http://www.gamersnet.nl/?minisite=Brink%20Minisite

The Brink Mini Site was another project where I tried to create more depth, although this time it was a bit harder, because at that moment there wasn't the possibility to have elements from the Mini Site partially cover the rest of the website. To add depth I animated the background, which consists of several layers. The layers that are the furthest away are more blurred to add more depth.

Another element that adds depth is the fire bottle that the character is holding. The smoke that is coming out of the bottle goes behind the text on the review button, but in front of the button interface element. The smoke was animated, as well as the muzzle flash from the gun. When the gun is fire you don't just see the muzzle flash, but you also see the character firing it lighting up slightly.
