Kitsune (狐, fox) are forest spirits from the Japanese folklore, which main task is to protect forests and small villages. They posses magical skills, wich grow in power as they get older and knowledge gathering. In addition, age, wisdom and general power of a kitsune are greater when the number of tails increases, being the most powerful ones the nine tails. These have just one tail so far, but I'm pretty confident that they'll grow more in time 

Also, kitsunes are closely tied with the god shinto (kami) Inari, deity of fertility, agriculture, rice and foxes. Kitsunes are also messengers and servants of this god, reinforcing their supernatural powers.

Among their more prominent magic it stands out the ability to shape into human form, usually that of a young woman. In some traditional tales, and in general in the folklore, the kitsune manages as a being that takes advantage of her shapeshifting skill to play around and perform mischief on people; at other times the animal performs guardian duty, friend, lover or even wife.

Maybe some day I will draw a Tanuki to make them company.
