Penumbra is an Online Youth Magazine but with every ‘SpeakUp’ event, it plans to release a Print Issue with the compilation of the best of its articles and a very thought-after topic for ‘Cover Story’. This year the topic for the cover story was the same as that of SpeakUp - Critical Thinking.
Being a part of Penumbra for almost 4 years and handling the design team, the magazine design for Penumbra was a part of my Graduation Project at NIFT, Mumbai. I came up with both print and digital versions and layout for the magazine.
Having designed the print issue the last time in 2014, this time I wanted to have a structure for the same. I came up with two options - Online PDF and Print Issue. The layouts for the Online PDF and Print Issue varies with a lot of changes and alterations. After studying the difference between both print and digital design for magazines, I came up with two solutions where the technical features for both would be different but the visual language and structure remains the same. However, the skeleton was created for both so that if Penumbra plans to release an online or a print issue more frequently, one could only place the text and change the image.
