The Past Is Always With Us

I was attracted to this scene of a wedding taking place on a site that once again unites the modern and the ancient. I wanted to isolate the humans in the shot - the little kids snarking at each other as they carry the bride's long train. The nervous groom in his suit, waiting with hands clasped at his waist. 

I felt that this picture - of a wedding, an ancient ritual - being performed on an ancient site, but with the latest modern photographic equipment being set up to capture the moment, felt like a bridge between epochs. 

The fact that the bridge is broken, ruined, crumbling - literally, a bridge to nowhere as the background to a ceremony that is all about hope and a journey into the future - seemed deeply ironic to me.
