Pen & Ink

The following illustrations were done in ink, with a Uniball 0.38 pen, my go-to pen for a period of time. The pen's smooth flow of ink and it's sharpness allowed for me to apply cross-hatching, my then go-to style of drawing, successfully and with good control.

The Stag, Owl and Tiger
The first of the series of animal illustrations I did, both out of liking for the animals and the challenge they posed to me in drawing them. Taking the first step, that leap of faith of putting pen to paper, the Stag is my reminder. They remain my favourites out of the entire series.

Kittens
These I did specifically for a local arts market (The Local People), where I sold them as stickers. After the first three, in which I put much effort into detailing, I could handle the drawing of the kittens better.

The Hyena, Lion Chief and Rattlesnake
The last three of the animal series. Knowing when and where to apply more lines, and why, I think, is the trick to a successful drawing using cross-hatching. This would be most evident in the Rattlesnake and Hyena illustrations, where scale and fur patterns were intricate.
