Pokémon Go Pokéball Designs

We are all aware of the iconic game that is sweeping the globe. I've been a fan of Pokémon since I was a small child. Drawing Pokémon in my spare time hobby as an artist helped me become familiar with the shapes of each teams logos in order to recreate the feel. I took this opportunity to combine two things that I love, designing and 90's nostalgia.
I started out with Team Instinct for no simpler reasons than I am on Team Instinct and Yellow is a wonderful color to design with. Starting simple I slowly explored the shape and feel of the mascot Zapdos. I tried out secondary colors but decided quickly that yellow and orange were going to be the only two.
The Mystic Pokéball irked me for the longest time. I could not figure out the right color combination for the final design. It was fairly easy going since I knew what shape I wanted after making the initial sketch.  I bounced back and forth between the 3 blues and a black for about 30 minutes before choosing the final.
The Valor Pokéball was a delight to draw out. Working with gradients and soft lighting are one of my favorite skills to show off. The initial concept for this design was asymmetric but that idea was begrudgingly thrown out in part. The design was kept symmetric but the gradient below and the white accents help give it the asymmetry that I was looking for.
As a kid, I never really knew why the Pokéballs only had designs on the top half. Until the cherish and luxury balls were designed and implemented into the game, I always felt that the bottom half was an unexplored opportunity for Pokéball designers. That is why all three of the finished designs have some sort of embellishment on the bottom to help balance the design.

Good luck catching 'em all
