Tucson Urban Scenes

Photography from in and around Tucson, Arizona. This presents a variety of people, places, and events.
Graffiti
I have barely scratched the surface of urban paintings and graffiti. People add interesting and colorful ones more often than I get out to take pictures.
Pima County Fair
An annual event
Door
From an upcoming collection of doors, this whimsical one is located in South Tucson, a small town near Tucson.
Street Performer
Taken at the semi-annual Fourth Avenue Street Fair. This man like to get on public access TV and advocate for the legalization of marijuana. I can't say his performance was particularly musical, but it was interesting talking to him there.
Roadrunner Express
I found this during a recent photo shoot of doors in downtown Tucson. The mural below is made of bits of this and that, including mirrors.
Please Take Our Picture
These two men could barely speak English, but they begged me to take their picture. So I obliged.
Mural, Mexican Restaurant
This is a mural made of tiles, painted and mosaic. There are many beautiful examples of art just like this in the city.
El Mercado
This complex contains little shops and offices. The style of painting in brilliant contrasting colors is common in Tucson.
Tucson Meet Yourself - Thai Dancer
Every October, we have a festival, where people of many different ethnic groups who live in and around Tucson, Arizona, come and perform their music and dance, and provide food in their native cuisine.
Ted DeGrazia Boyhood Home
This is a doorway in the home of the famous southwestern painter. You can see the construction was made of flat stones cemented together with mud. This is located at the Gallery of the Sun, which is part of the National Historic places registry.
Tucson Gem and Mineral Show
Every February, people from around the world gather and buy and sell. Sometimes they are wearing their native dress, as in this photo. Rocks, minerals, gems, cabochons, folk art, and other things are commonly sold. It is one of the biggest events of the year.
Historic House
This is a long building that formerly housed the mess hall for the military folks in frontier Arizona. To the left of the door you can see a string of dried chilis. The walls are roughly stuccoed.
Yard Decoration
This is a very small part of the landscaping at the home of Harrison Yocum, the founder of the Tucson Botanical Gardens. A delightful man with a whimsical sense of humor, Harrison has decorated his yard with mountains of minerals collected all over Arizona and New Mexico, as well as many different succulents. He is a knowledgeable botanist on desert plants and palms, and also has composed nearly 200 waltzes for piano. He is truly a Renaissance man.
Pima County Air Museum
Because of Tucson's dry climate, this is an ideal location for many examples of aircraft, mostly military, from the history of military aviation.
It's Hard to Choose
This was taken at the semiannual Fourth Avenue Street Fair. This girl is having a hard time choosing just one from the many beautiful stuffed lizards.
Gas Pump
This style of pump was before my time, and I'm a golden ager. But it says they're selling unleaded gas!
Mural with Children
This is one of the many beautiful murals around town. The Hispanic children were there to take part in the street fair; they were dancers.
