Chex Quest, the definitive cereal based fps (a hotly contested honor, if ever there was one), stormed the hearts and breakfast tables of many a young gamer upon its release in 1996.  Being distributed for free in cereal boxes and containing very few instances of chainsawing Nazis in half, it was available to children who might not otherwise have access to the genre at all.
Chex Quest HD is an updated re-imagining of the game being produced for its twentieth anniversary.  The project involves both original crew members (read lead artist Charles Jacobi's interview with Zam about CQ:HD here) and new faces, like myself, that were some of the young gamers influenced by the game's original release.
As the project's primary game designer, it falls to me to bring the game into the modern era without sacrificing too much of the retro feel and camp of the original.  The most drastic changes have been to the levels themselves, streamlining the flow and pacing of their new incarnations to meet modern sensibilities: gone are the confusingly identical mazes, linear progression, and unavoidable backtracking.  An emphasis on action and speed remains, though, and you'll find no respite cowering behind cover waiting for health regeneration that never comes.
Of course, on such a small team I also end up implementing everything from weapons fire to elevator recall switches to level outros.  As we're working in UE4 and with a team of varying technical aptitude, this inevitably involves a lot of blueprint work.
We've still got a ways yet to go before the game is ready, but I'd still like to thank you for your interest.  Happy zorching!
