Drawing 101 - Winter 2016

First still life - needed to include cloth and three cylindrical objects with light, medium, and dark values. Charcoal on paper.
Quick practice in value and reflection for the next still life (see below). Charcoal on paper.
Focused on capturing local value, distortions, perspective, and light. Charcoal on paper.
First introduction to color! Progress picture with subject included. Nupastels on paper.
Practice for project below. We were asked to capture a small object using one pair of complementary colors (yellow and purple) along with white and black. The middle color+value strip transitions from yellow to purple. Black had been added to the top strip and white to the bottom one. The neutrals used in the banana are created by the mixing of complementary colors. Nupastels on paper.
Live model drawing using a split complementary color scheme (orange, blue-green, and blue-violet). Needed to include a mystical/magical environment created by a repeating organic object. Needed to show depth through variations in saturation, value, and size. Nupastel on paper.
Illustration from a story. Required to research and compile multiple images for each element (ie. the mountains, houses, clouds, and atmosphere). Split complementary color scheme (yellow-orange, blue, and violet). Nupastel on paper.
