The cross country meet director for Indiana Wesleyan University came to me about creating a new course map for spectators and coaches to use. The old maps were simply a screenshot of the property from Google Earth, and when printed out, it was difficult to read because there was no contrast, not to mention it just wasn't very appealing.
The project was to create three maps; one for the middle school 3K course, one for the high school and collegiate women's 5K course, and one for the collegiate men's 8K course.
This course hosts one of the largest high school cross country meets in the state.
Being in a vector format, they are cleaner and crisper than an image, and they are easy to read when printed. When designing the course lines showing where the runners go, I needed to keep in mind that when these are printed, they will most likely be done so in black and white. So, instead of relying solely on color to differentiate between the miles, I made each line a different style.

These will not only be posted on the Indiana Wesleyan University Athletics website, but printed on Plexiglas on the back of a building housing the timing equipment and serving as the Wildcat's team camp.
