Although summer is arguably the most active and fun season of the year, it is also the hottest. That is why we are proposing the +Pavilion, a refreshing avant garde pavilion located in the middle of “The Lake” in Central Park, providing a fresh and innovative meeting place for both tourists and New Yorkers alike. The +Pavilion is characterized by its Greek cross shape, which divides the functions of the space into The Café, The Art Zone, The Relaxation Zone, and the Restrooms. These different spaces all meet at the center, which becomes a plaza that serves as an amphitheatre. This plaza, which is the only space in the pavilion directly under the sun, can be used to host many types of theatrical, musical, or interactive activities, which can range from concerts, plays, fashion shows, yoga classes, water balloon fights, etc. As nature plays a fundamental part in all summer activities, every space in the +Pavilion provides a 360 degrees view to the exterior so the user can enjoy the marvelous view of “The Lake” and its green surroundings in the sunniest of days. This added to the fact that the +Pavilion is virtually an oasis, ensures the freshness that is so coveted during summertime.

+Pavilion offers a variety of uses in each space thanks to its spatial flexibility. The Café (3) has one fixed, rectangular bar. Multiple food related activities can take place here: food or wine tasting, a barbecue, or a small food fair. The Relaxation Zone (4) has mobile pads under the shade. It’s the perfect place for reading, resting, or relaxing without being bothered by the hot, intense summer sun. Due to it’s waterfront location, one could even use the space to host a RC motor-boat competition. Different kinds of art need different kinds of spaces. The Art Zone (5) has a set of mobile panels that allow any configuration of art or craft exposition to take place. Finally, The Central Plaza (1), serves as an amphitheatre. Movie Screenings can be enjoyed when a mobile panel from the Art Zone is oriented towards the seats. Also, thanks to the change in level, a modular fashion runway can be improvised from the Freshness zone towards the center
