I work in a non-representational manner. The paintings that I make are made with acrylic paint and water-soluble latex enamel paint . My paintings are layered with subject matter and the paintings:are painted and over-panted. I like the paint on a surface to have a tactile, textural quality and I alternate using wet in wet painting technique while re-working or editing sections of dried paint. I paint things out. I paint things over until they fit. I make cardboard relief elements to place into my work to give me a raised element to consider on the painting substrate: bas-relief on a flat painted surface. The contradistinction imposed with a relief surface juxtaposed to, next to a flat surface ls becoming fascinating to me. The overlapping and overlaying of color, line. flat planes, raised planes, scumbled or poured gestures, doodling, marking, dripping and slathering of paint all add character to the paintings I am making.. I make drawings as I work. I work in series. I am in the studio surrounded by the work that I think I have completed and the work in progress on the painting wall. I take cues for the work from the paintings in progress as well as the useful and nearby subject matter of my painting wall to make the next paintings or to amend the painting(s) in progress. As I work i work on more than one a painting at a time.
