When I create jewelry with materials gathered from hobby and craft stores, I like to start with the charm as the focus of the piece, and build the colors and patterns of the beads from there. I choose charms based on concepts I personally identify with, so that every piece I create has a bit of personal meaning to it as a product of my imagination. I enjoy using bright colors to make the piece stand out and call attention to itself.
