Inspiration
I researched the show’s style and compiled an image database to take inspiration. I then decided what elements I wanted to include in my weapon and what the function of the weapon would be. I decided on an Asuran Disrupter Blade. The Asurans are a race of people made up of self-replicating nanites. They were originally created by The Ancients as a weapon against the Wraith but they lost control of them and they evolved into their own race. The weapon I created disrupts the communication lines between the individual nanites within an Asuran, causing them to literally fall apart.

Process
I did the majority of my ideation in Rhino, creating various 3D models until I found a design I liked. I then created orthographics to work from at the milling machine. I milled nearly the entire weapon, mirroring the two sides to match. I resin cast the crystal, the center window, and the blade details. The blade is make out of aluminum inlaid with resin.

Resin Parts
Once I had the handle milled I cut it in half and milled out a window for the interior resin to be inlaid. I also created a slot for the blade to go into and a slot for the crystal. Then Bondo-ed the halves back together, sanded, and painted it. I then created the blade and set it in the handle. The final step was casting the crystal and setting it in place.

Final Model
The final model is eye-catching and durable. The influence of “Stargate Atlantis” is clear.
