Water Damage Reconstruction
A re-roofing project turned sour for this church due to the unsecured roof being exposed to heavy rains. Damage occurred to the interior plaster walls, ceiling & plaster ornaments.

As project manager, I directed the restoration of this historic building. The scope included the restoration of all plaster elements including decorations, using traditional techniques and materials.
Almost another space equal to the space below, the attic work required special precautions for both the safety of the workers and the thin layer of plaster that separated them from below.
This shows debris removal in one of the many vaults. Work was careful, slow, hot, confined and ongoing!
Diagnosis of the plaster occurred from above as well. All plaster keys were inspected to confirm the viability of the ceiling.
The vault bases presented some drying challenges to preserve as much of the lime based ornamentation as possible.
This is the fully restored vault base from the previous picture.
Removal of the skim coat to reveal the secondary brown coat.
Tube and clamp scaffolding with its debris shield.
Every crack had to be carefully explored to understand the true nature of damage. Some larger cracks did not need to be opened up much further, while other ones like this one (which appeared externally to be quite small) had to be taken back substantially.
Most of the skim coat has been taken back on the ceiling, and the water damage to the ornaments can be seen where the lime has reactivated and bubbled out.
Infared technology helped immensely in this project.
Lots of containment requirements.
