Islamic Architecture in Cairo - Pt 3

In late 2015, I was privileged with taking an Islamic architecture course, where we visited Cairo's most famous mosques, madrasahs, khanqahs, sabils, kuttab, mausoleums and complexes that embodied the golden age of the Islamic civilization and captured and preserved the essence of religious spirituality. We visited sites from every caliphate era in Islamic history: Tulunids, Fatimids, Ayyubids, Bahri Mamluks, Burgi Mamluks and finally the Ottomans. The architecture spans over a 1000 years, from 800 to 1800 A.D.

"Islamic art is symbolic in the deepest sense, but you have to understand its language.
It is the manifestation of the inner dimension of the Islamic revelation. It is silent theology."
- Seyyed Hossein Nasr

I hope you enjoy this gallery and forgive me for some of the poor resolution photos!
All were actually taken with my smartphone. I also hope you get a chance to visit these beautiful places,
since no photos or words can truly describe their spirit or divine atmosphere; they must be experienced with the heart.
