Starkey Hearing Foundation PSA

Starkey Hearing Foundation

Only one out of every five people who could benefit from a hearing aid actually wear one (The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders). By giving a donation to the Starkey Hearing Foundation, you're giving someone else a chance to hear the world.

Starkey Hearing Foundation has operated in rural areas all over the world and has made significant strides to provide alternative hearing solutions for those who cannot afford, or even acquire it.
Creative Direction
For this PSA I wanted to raise awareness at the deficit in disabling hearing loss solutions compared to the number of people who can benefit from it. This made typography very important by emphasizing the fact that 360,000,000 people have some form of disabling hearing loss.

Voice Overs
Initially I had one person, with an american accent, do the voice over, but after careful review of Starkey's mission, I thought it would be best to incorporate an international blend to the voices to relate to Starkey's missions across the world. Working with multiple voice actors was an interesting experience. After several recording sessions with close friends of different regions of the world, I found that this clearly communicated the international message of Starkey. Special thanks to Crosby Ignasher, who was kind and willing enough to let us use his recording equipment to do numerous voice recording sessions.

Charitable Mood
Elements used to create a light tone included soft and loosened sans serif typography, large areas of white negative space, soft textures on the character heads, light blues and gentle animation.

Music & Sound
Paul Suite, a composer from Trinidad & Tobago, perfectly executed the upbeat lightheartedness I required for the project. His ability to maintain simplicity while still expressing the right emotion clearly displays his talent. White Noise Lab, is an exceptionally talented audio studio based in California. One of their most recent popular projects they've worked on was Blink My Brain (Ariel Costa) "Sins" project. They were excited to assist me with sound design and final mixing - please check out their work in the hyperlink at the top of this post.
