Observation stage: Contours.

The “linear contour” is a drawing expression where you have to watch every part of the observed object without watching the drawing you are making on the paper. My project is a series of self portraits with this linear expression; I create, this lines, textures and motions in two stages.

In the first part of the exercise, I was facing the mirror, observing the lines surrounding my body and my face, only following my shapes with my eyes while my hand drew myself.

In the second part, I took my self-portraits as an exercise for the substantial exploration of my body. Without the mirror, my left hand touches my face, my teeth, and all the physical elements that could be references of my existence. This impression in my left hand is followed by my right hand; translating the corporal sensation in a linear contour.
I chose this subject because the self-portrait is a constant search in the works of art, in this case, the drawing expression makes the difference. You really need to be consistent in your drawing but you also need to be a flexible in the way you touch yourself for recognizing each part of you with your personal way to watch. The drawing line ends where begins.
