The original picture had a lot bright colors that made stripes. I tried to replicate this in my monster by adding similar colors in the same places. However, I tried to "smudge" mine together, so it wasn't straight colors and had a better flow to it. It also made it easier to add lighter and darker places to the image, to make it more realistic and more dimensional.
There were some things that I did remove from the picture. I changed the color of the face and wings to a more orange color. The circular stripes on the face were difficult to create, and looked bad at the end of the process. The wings were similar, where the stripes didn't look too great after doing the same process that I used to make the tails and body.
This was my first drawing in PhotoShop. I tried to start off in Illustrator, but didn't think that the dimensions would be very easy to do. I tested out different methods on the body, found one I liked, then repeated that on to all the other parts of the monster, like the tail and arms. I think that the monster could have ended up a lot better, because it doesn't have too much depth to it. I could have done a better job at darkening the sections not in the sun, and adding a shadow behind the monster.
