I think an essence of humanity is that we are, by nature, a very curious species.  When we are children, we often unwittingly put ourselves in harms way in order to see or do something new.  Some of us never grow out of this tendancy.  Sometimes this leads to our mortal demise, but I think it would be more tragic if we all lost our inner explorer in the name of safety.
