Gumshoe Typeface Process Book

Focus: Typography, creating a one-of-a-kind typeface

The challenge for this project was to create a typeface inspired by an existing set of letterforms. Although I did reference other typefaces while creating my designs, I opted to create a typeface that was unique to any I had seen before it.

I chose the name "Gumshoe" for my typeface because it reminded my of a sneaky sleuth. I chose to have both long ascenders and descenders as well as distinguishable counters. The letterforms are eccentric and therefore, can only be applied as display type.

The process book encapsulates the identity of "Gumshoe". It is quirky, mysterious and fun. The book boasts a mysterious kidnapping with a happy ending. Keep and eye out...there are eights hidden everywhere...
