Of The Southern Wild, is a collection inspired by the southern wetlands. The southern coastal wetlands are an important eco system that provide many resources, however they are dissipating at at an exponential rate. I became inspired by the wetlands when discussing their importance, and their need to be saved, with an environmental scientist. The coastal wetlands provide flood protection, erosion control, wildlife habitat. The wetlands also provide over 50% of the fish shellfish in the southeastern united states as well as filters the harmful chemicals before the water is released back to the ocean while decreasing carbon in the environment. During my photographic research I realized how beautiful the wetlands are in their entirety and wanted to display them through delicate simple garments with high resolution images of first hand exploration of a beuatiful eco system that needs to be saved.
